Heroes of Armageddon Winners Announced!

by on Jul.29, 2011, under News, Storm Wardens

We are very proud to announce that these armies have raised $31,057 for Doctors without Borders

Friends,
the wait is over. The Heroes of Armageddon project started in April and now, almost 4 months later, we have accomplished what we set out to do: 4 armies modeled and painted to the highest standards. We have here the true Heroes of Armageddon: the Steel Legion and Blood Angels opposite Ghazghkull Thraka’s Horde and the Wazdakka Gutsmek’s Speed Freaks.

From the start of this project, we have tried to stay close to the 3000 point goal, but as you will see, some armies are bigger, some are smaller. All in all, it has been a tremendous effort, having models come from all over the American continent, from Hawaii to Canada to Virginia.

We have done this to raise money for Doctors without Borders, an organisation that sends their people out into the most dangerous places on earth, to help the helpless and try to keep them alive and healthy. They need support and our incredible gaming community has stepped up to the plate. This sunday we will reveal the total amount raised, which will be very exciting. After that the armies will travel to Games Day in Chicago on July 30th to be displayed on a custom built 6×8 foot gaming table, built by Brian Niro from Gentleman’s Ones.
Scroll down to see the custom table WIP images and links.

BUT we are not done yet: if you haven’t donated, do so now. If you already gave some, maybe give again…the prizes are worth it: you could win one of these four armies:

All the miniatures for the four armies are on resin bases donated and shipped by Secret Weapon Miniatures and Dragon Forge Design. Both owners Justin and Jeff also built models for the Steel Legion army.

Check out the armies and the winners here

Review- Quantum Gothic Armoured Gate

Review- Quantum Gothic Armoured Gate

http://www.quantumgothic.co.uk/

Quantum Gothic produces high quality resin terrain pieces for 28mm gaming.
Whereas other manufacturers make scenery for various genres, Quantum Gothic focuses solely on a futuristic dark gothic setting and their pieces capture the aesthetic quite well.

Quantum Gothic Armoured Gate

The Armoured Gate really is a must have addition to the Armoured Wall. It not only completes the look but makes the wall much more useful.

The gate is my favorite piece from Quantum Gothic. It operates like a draw bridge and opens and closes easily. The front of the gate is covered in rivets and studs. It also has what looks like a peep hole. The back has a metal grate to give traction for vehicles. Flanking the gate are decorative Aquila heads. The back side contains controls to operate the gate.

The kit is simple to build and comes in 10 parts. The quality of the cast is excellent and there is really no clean up necessary. To assemble the gate, first align the two pieces. Place the top on the bottom piece and make sure it moves freely.

Next, glue on the alignment tabs. This will hold the door in place and allow it move. Carefully glue these in the demarcated spaces. Be careful not to glue the door shut.

The control panels should then be glued onto the backsides of the wall.

Next, glue the Aquila heads to the front of the wall.

The gate can either be glued to the wall or left separate. They connect by male and female tabs located at the bottom of the wall and the gate.

The finished Armoured Gate measures 4 ½” Long by 2 ½” high. If open, the gate itself measures 1 ¾” wide by 3” long. Due to the modular nature of the Quantum Gothic pieces, the gate can be placed anywhere in the Armoured Wall series. The gate can also be widened by purchasing more panels. This would allow for larger transports and tanks.

The modular feature has allowed Quantum Gothic to make many other scenery pieces which can be integrated into the wall. These include a bunker, gate, watch tower, gun emplacements and much more.

I painted up the Armoured Gate set to match the wall set I have.

If you own the Quantum Gothic Wall set, I highly recommend buying the gate.

Review- Quantum Gothic Armoured Wall Starter Set

Review- Quantum Gothic Armoured Wall Starter Set

http://www.quantumgothic.co.uk/

Quantum Gothic produces high quality resin terrain pieces for 28mm gaming.
Whereas other manufacturers make scenery for various genres, Quantum Gothic focuses solely on a futuristic dark gothic setting and their pieces capture the aesthetic quite well.

Quantum Gothic Armoured Wall Starter Set

The Armoured Wall Starter Set comes with 8 pieces- 2 long, 4 corners, and 2 destroyed.
The pieces are solid and quite substantial. They are not going to be falling over while gaming.

The wall looks intimidating and highly defensible. It’s covered in metal supports and tons of rivets. The top of the wall has small barriers which form firing slits.

It was nice to find that all of the casts were clean and free of air bubbles. The pieces are all solid casts of resin so there is no assembly required.

The wall series is well designed and meant to be modular. With the basic set you have enough pieces to do several different configurations. I recommend buying additional pieces so you can have the wall curve around an important objective or enclose a city block.

The long wall pieces measure 4”long by 1 ½” high, the corners are 2 ¾” long by 1 ½” high, and the destroyed pieces are 3 ½” long by 1 ½” high.

The modular feature has allowed Quantum Gothic to make many other scenery pieces which can be integrated into the wall. These include a bunker, gate, watch tower, gun emplacements and much more.

I painted up the wall set to be a part of an urban landscape.

I love the basic wall set and plan on getting the other sets so I have all the options available for my gaming table.

Review- Ziterdes Trench Works Terrain

Review- Ziterdes Trench Works

http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/de/

Although I’m fully capable of making my own terrain, I’ve grown fond of buying pre-
made pieces. Sometimes I just have too many projects going on and a company like
Ziterdes produces quality products that can go on my tabletop.

Ziterdes is a subsidiary of the famous NOCH GmbH & Co. KG. Their name is derived
from Mr. Wilhelm Ziegler-a guy who came to them with the idea of
making gaming terrain. Ziterdes stands for Ziegler Terrain Design.

All of the pieces come pre-painted and
are cast out of rigid
urethane foam which makes them very light weight and durable. Ziterdes has
approximately 250 different scenic items designed for use with 25-28mm gaming.

Trench Works

There are several different trench pieces made by Ziterdes. They can all be found in the
Bunker section.
All of the pieces are interchangeable and designed to be used together. This allows for
numerous configurations and can fit any section of the battlefield.
Each part is a one-piece cast and it is amazing how well the foam captures the detail.

The
fractures in the wooden beams to the smallest stones are all visible.
The trenches are very basic in look and design. The ground is dirt and the walls are
shored up with wooden beams. This allows for the trench to be used in almost any
setting. It will work well as a Khador defensive line, a trench in WW2, in the dark future
and much more.

The trenches are well designed and will accommodate troop-sized and slightly larger
bases.

The fronts and backs of each trench piece is not overly steep and are also not overly
cluttered with debris, so models can easily stand on it.

Straight, T-Section, and End Caps

These are the basic pieces which will allow you to design the trench in any manner you
see fit. The more you have of these the better.
I like terrain that has a narrative and these pieces have it.
The T- Section measures 7″X8″, and has craters and broken beams along the face which
shows that this section has seen action.
The Straight section measures 7″X7″.
The end caps are very useful, and allow us to complete the trench in areas we want it to
end.

Position Lynx

Position Lynx is a lightly fortified terrain piece. It is one of the only pieces in the trench
line that has sand bags. There are also an oil drum and craters on this piece. It is large
enough to hold a squad of troops or a heavy weapons team. This piece measures 8″X9″.

Vault 13

Vault 13 is the highlight of the trench pieces. It is a WW2 concrete bunker reminiscent

of the Atlantikwall. Just like all of the other Ziterdes pieces it comes pre-painted and
ready to play right out of the packaging. The detail is good and I really like the fact that
the concrete mold lines on the bunker show up well.

The bunker is very gaming friendly since its roof is removable.

The bunker can house up to 9 figures on small bases and is 8″X8″.
There are other pieces in the trench line which are not shown here. There is a ruined
bunker called Bunker 33, angled pieces, and tank traps.

Below are pictures of the trench painted.

The trench collection is a great set to have. I recommend picking a set of these up if
you find them. If you don’t see Ziterdes products at your local gaming shop ask them to
bring them in through ACD Distribution.

The trench line can be seen here http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/de/produkte/
